Studio BalletColourful.

We are excited to announce the first Studio BalletColourful location is OPEN in Leura, Blue Mountains NSW!

Studio BalletColourful (SBC) offers six distinct levels of Classical Ballet Tuition that progress systematically in order to build technical strength and artistry. Classes begin at age 3 and progress through to 18 years. The class list and levels are unique to BalletColourful and incorporate syllabus work from the world class Australian Teachers of Dancing Classical Ballet and National Character Syllabi, Open Ballet Class, and Classical Pilates. This method of training ensures dancers are learning Classical Ballet harmoniously and safely.

  • Ballet is a performance art that originated during the Italian Renaissance. It is now a widespread and technical form of dance that uses a French vocabulary. Strength, balance, discipline, confidence and expression of movement are just some of the many skills developed when practicing Ballet. Open Ballet Class is where the teacher creates the exercises and chooses the music to use. This style of class is often tailored to dancers and their specific needs.

  • Character dancing introduces dancers to different traditional dance styles from around the world, giving them the experience of dance’s rich and diverse history. All traditional Classical Ballets such as Swan Lake, Nutcracker, and Coppélia show Character Dance at its best. This art form is an important component of Classical Ballet training as it improves style and artistry through movement, and enhances performance skills.

  • Classical Pilates is a form of weight bearing movement that increases strength, stability, and flexibility. Pilates compliments Ballet training by ensuring dancers build a strong foundation for the artform to develop.

  • BALLET BUDS PRESCHOOL BALLET: Ages 3-5

Budding dancers are introduced to the wonder of Ballet through the Australian Teachers of Dancing (ATOD) Pre-Ballet Syllabi. Dancers develop their fine and gross motor skills, improve their listening and social skills, and develop musicality and self-expression when participating in Ballet Buds. Each term dancers are introduced to new exercises and music, sparking their imaginations and creativity.

Ballet Buds allows dancers to grow from Buds to Blooms; laying a strong foundation to flourish in all Studio BalletColourful levels.

Please note: BALLET BUDS holds an OPEN DOOR POLICY. At the discretion of the parent/carer, one parent/carer is welcome to sit and watch the weekly lesson. We recommend talking to your dancer to decide what is best for you.

    YELLOW WATTLE BALLET: Ages 5-7

Dancers learn and practice the ATOD Foundation Level 1 & 2 Ballet Syllabi.

Please note: At this level and going forward, SBC asks that dancers attend the class on their own (without a parent/carer watching.) This helps make ‘Open Week’ more enjoyable and rewarding for the dancer.

    BLUEBELL BALLET: Ages 7-9

Dancers learn and practice the ATOD Foundation Level 3 Ballet Syllabus and are introduced to National Character Dance through the ATOD National Character Foundation Syllabus.

    SCARLETT ROSE BALLET: Ages 9-11

Dancers learn and practice the ATOD Silver Level Ballet and Silver Level National Character Syllabi. Classical Pilates is introduced to this age group and dancers begin learning conditioning exercises to complement their Ballet training.

    EMERALD LILY BALLET: Ages 12-14

Dancers learn and practice the ATOD Gold Level Ballet and Gold Level National Character Syllabi, and are introduced to Open Ballet Class while continuing Classical Pilates. Dancers can begin Point Work at age 12 (A pre-point physiotherapist will determine when the dancer is ready to wear point shoes).

    BLUE ORCHID BALLET: Ages 15-18

Dancers learn and practice parts of the ATOD vocational syllabi and participate in more advanced Open Ballet Class. Point Work is practiced more frequently and Classical Pilates becomes more advanced.

At SBC, the last week of terms 1, 2 and 3 is ‘Open Week’ whereby dancers can have parents/carers watch their lesson. This is a lovely opportunity for dancers to demonstrate what they have learnt throughout the term. The last week of term 4 is ‘Performance Week’ whereby BalletColourful invites a guest teacher to award all dancers with various merits after watching their lessons. At SBC we end the year by recognising and emphasising dancer’s individual strengths.
